Cheers, Tears and A Few SurprisesIt was a weekend filled with excitement, happiness and pride as some 250 Ashworth graduates walked down the aisle in style during our second annual 2008 Commencement ceremonies. Nearly 1,000 grads and their jubilant guests attended the event. Friends and relatives came to show their support and give them well-earned applause as each name was announced. CareerBuilder Job Search WorkshopThe day before the ceremony, some 60 graduates and their guests attended an Open House here at Ashworth featuring a special Job Search Workshop sponsored by Careerbuilder.com. Graduates gained valuable insider tips on topics such as locating the most suitable jobs online, making a positive impression on recruiters, polishing up their resumes, and negotiating higher salaries.
Videos, Lunch and Free T-ShirtsGraduates were also given the opportunity to tell their success stories on video, enjoy lunch on us and receive a free T-shirt. The T-shirts feature the imprint of an original design by one of our students, Virginia Bermudez. She won the Ashworth Graduation Ceremony Design Contest. Her design also appears on the official ceremony program. The CeremonyAn inspired welcome by Ashworth Executive Vice President Jon Bouffler was followed by an impassioned speech by Michael Lambert, Executive Director of the Distance Education and Training Council, the accrediting body for all Ashworth programs. The Cristina Show Makes A VisitOne Ashworth graduate, Carolina Alforo of Arizona, was unable to afford travel to our ceremony. However, the Cristina Show, on the Univision station, the most popular Hispanic television show in America, stepped in to pay for the trip. Not only that, but Ashworth encouraged Carolina to further pursue her education. Now Carolina is enrolled in our Associate Degree Program in Early Childhood Education. Delta Epsilon Tau Honor SocietyThe 2008 graduation activities included a special presentation to newly inducted members of Delta Epsilon Tau, a national honor society for distance learning institutions. Eligible grads were invited to join this prestigious organization because of their high grade point average and exceptional performance throughout the distance learning process. |
